If confirmed by the state Senate, Dr. Washington will replace Jeff Brown, who has been acting health commissioner since April 2025 under Gov. Phil Murphy. Dr. Washington's impressive academic credentials include a bachelor's degree, a master's in Public Health, and a Ph.D. in epidemiology, all from the University of Pittsburgh. He has also served as a health research scientist for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and as an adjunct professor at several universities.
