Get ready for some jaw-dropping reveals on 'The Masked Singer'! π This season, the show is kicking things up a notch with a dramatic double elimination, and we're already saying goodbye to one of baseball's biggest stars.
In the season 14 premiere, the towering Googly Eyes costume character stole the show. With his impressive height, Googly Eyes left an unforgettable impression on the judges and the audience. Jenny McCarthy, one of the judges, quickly picked up on the athlete's identity, attributing his stature to his sports background.
Googly Eyes, in his pre-recorded video, boasted about his qualifications, claiming to be a massive star and a born leader. He even hinted at his business acumen, saying he's known for turning businesses around. As he made copies of a poppyseed bagel, he named a few of his 'references,' including Kevin Bacon, John Krasinski, and Chris Tucker.
Standing next to a bowl of cake batter, Googly Eyes confidently declared, "So I am perfect for the gig, and will be clutch for making this season a smash." And smash it he did! His epic performance of "Turn Down for What" by DJ Snake and Lil Jon had the judges in stitches. Rita Ora exclaimed, "How are we supposed to know who that is? I'm still trying to process what just happened!"
Googly Eyes went head-to-head with Cat Witch, who channeled Lady Gaga's "Abracadabra" for her performance. Cat Witch's victory sent Googly Eyes to join the bottom five contestants, much to the surprise of the judges.
Ultimately, Googly Eyes' journey came to an end, and the judges put their detective skills to the test, guessing who was behind the giant costume. All of them correctly identified a baseball player, with many pointing to Googly Eyes' distinctive accent. Jenny guessed Derek Jeter, while Robin Thicke opted for Manny Ramirez before changing his guess to Pedro Martinez. Rita went with Manny, but it was Ken Jeong who guessed correctly, revealing Googly Eyes to be none other than David Ortiz, a.k.a. Big Papi, the former Boston Red Sox designated hitter who helped the team win the 2004 World Series after an 86-year drought.
After being unmasked, David Ortiz shared his thoughts on the costume, saying, "That's a straight-up workout, man! I don't need to go to the gym for a month!" He continued, "But it was so much fun! I could sing that all day." And true to his nature, the World Series champion delivered one of his signature lines before leaving the stage: "I got something for them... daaaaaaaaaaa Yankees lose!"
But wait, there's more! The first episode also teased a triple elimination, with the duo The Croissants headed home. Their unmasking, however, will be revealed in episode two.
'The Masked Singer' airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox, and we can't wait to see who else will be unmasked next week. Stay tuned, because this season is shaping up to be a wild ride!
